Hi all! It’s Maria here again, and today I’m going to talk a little bit about tutoring.

When I say tutoring, I don’t just mean other peope who are at uni, I also mean in local schools and academies. Tutoring is brilliant to put on a CV and it is really easy if you know how to deal with kids!

So how can you actually get into tutoring?

Well, a lot of Universities actually have a Careers Services department and they can help put you in touch with the people who need help. They may contact a school for you or may give you the number to contact the school. They might even find out what you’re interested in tutoring and possibly hand you over to specific departments within the university for you to tutor other students.

Anyway, this was just a small tip for you to think about, any questions, just email me @:

Good Luck!

I know these tips don’t seem to be in any particular order, but there is a reason behind this. I want you to show initiative and try to do this for yourself, not just follow my tips. So today is going to be how to dress for an interview. Yes, you need to get the interview first, but I’ll leave you to think about that for now ;)

OK, so you got the interview and now you’re in panic mode. “What should I wear!?” “What should I say!?”

The answer to this isn’t complicated, but there isn’t a fixed answer, so I can tell you point blank. I’ll give a few examples.

Different firms have different cultures. If you work for Apple, they like their workers to weard jeans and a T-shirt, to feel comfortable at work as if it was their home, or a second home. But if you work at Liverpool FC, they like to be more ‘professional’. You have to wear smart clothes, a uniform in some positions. (I don’t mean being a player for LFC, I mean working for them as a waiter/waitress or a bartender).

So how are you going to find out about what you should wear for an interview?

Well, find out a bit about the company, do some research. If it’s for a shop, go and see what uniform they wear. If they do wear a uniform, it is highly likely that you will need to ‘Suit Up’ as Barney from How I Met Your Mother would say.

I hope this helped in some way, there’s not really much I can tell you about this topic. If you’re ever completely unsure, just wear smart clothes, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

OK, so here is the first tip!

Motivation is a huge factor when looking for jobs or earning money. It’s really easy to lose all hope when you’re struggling financially, and to actually achieve something, you have to stay motivated!

There will be ups and downs, I assure you. There’s no way past that. You might run out of ideas or you might think there is nothing left to do, but there always is, don’t worry! If you start worrying you won’t be able to think clearly, and if you can’t think clearly you’ll not be able to do anything! If you can’t do anything you’ll worry even more! It’s a vicious circle!

So what is the best way to avoid this? Well, purely and simply motivation. It sounds simple, but believe me, it often isn’t. There are loads of things you can do to stay motivated and I’m going to give you a couple of ideas.

First and formost, you have to ‘give yourself a pat on the back’ so to say, whenever something hasn’t gone right. So, let’s say you don’t get an interview for a job you applied for. At least you tried! Maybe you will next time! Maybe the people who did get an interview or possibly got the job were more qualified or maybe they needed people with different experience to you. Next time you might be the one who gets that place!

Another thing which sounds stupid and you might feel stupid doing it the first couple of times is standing in front of the mirror and looking at yourself. Smile, say how amazing you are and what a genius you are. Tell yourself how much you appreciate yourself and despite any/all failures how much you still love yourself! Yes it sounds stupid, but it works! Studies have shown that people who are depressed get a better effect from smiling at themselves in the mirror for 10 minutes everyday than they do from any medication that has been given to them! That is how powerful the mind is!

Get a couple of motivational posters (You can have a look at a few here). They are really useful and you can see them everyday if you put them up on your wall. And there’s the fact that they aren’t too expensive and they are quite good decorations.

Try to think of the glass as half full. You know it is!

And finally, keep going! You aren’t the only person in the world who might fail at some point in their life! Everyone does! Believe me! Talk to some mates about your troubles. You never know, they might be able to help!

So I hope this article helped you a little bit, and remember, these aren’t the only things you can do!

My task for you today is: Write a list of all the things you are proud of that you have accomplished up to now and put it up on your wall. Look at it every morning when you get up or whenever you feel a bit down by a mishap. The list doesn’t have to be long. Make it about 10 things if you want (In some seminars you have to write 100, yep, that’s right, 100!).

Good Luck and hope you come back again!!

Maria
